What Are GCSE Grade Boundaries?
Grade boundaries are the minimum raw marks needed to achieve each grade on a GCSE exam paper. They are set by exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) after each exam series and vary from year to year depending on the difficulty of the paper and the performance of all candidates.
For example, if the grade 7 boundary for AQA Maths Paper 1 is 48 out of 80, you need at least 48 marks on that paper to achieve a grade 7 (equivalent to the old A grade).
How to Use This Tool
Select your exam board and subject, choose your tier (Higher or Foundation), then enter the raw marks you scored (or expect to score) on each paper. The tool instantly shows your grade and how many extra marks you'd need to reach the next grade up.
Note: Boundaries shown are based on recent exam series data and are representative. Actual boundaries for 2026 will be published by exam boards after results day in August 2026.
